San Diego police have identified the 66-year-old man who was fatally stabbed in Pacific Beach early Wednesday morning as Merlino Bautista.

Police arrested Bautista’s nephew, Randy Baisa, who was inside the condo where both men lived. Baisa is being held without bail in county jail on first-degree murder in connection with the homicide. .

Police were called to the complex on Diamond Street near Lamont Street around 1:20 a.m. after one of Bautista’s neighbors called 911 after the wounded man came to his door seeking help.

Police found Bautista lying in a second floor hallway in the building suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

When police checked out the victim’s condominium, they found the suspect inside. He was arrested without incident, polica said.
