How to help folks in need this holiday season in Jackson, MS and Hinds County

How to help folks in need this holiday season in Jackson, MS and Hinds County - Local Records Office

Folks looking to volunteer and help those in need this holiday season have many options in the Jackson area to choose from.

But before giving, find out what your local shelter or food pantry needs. Here are some resources:

Stewpot

Stewpot runs a community kitchen, three shelters for women: Sims House, Matt’s House and Flowers House, the Billy Brumfield men’s shelter and a food pantry among other services.

Gateway Rescue Mission

Gateway runs two shelters for men and women and a feeding program that offers three meals a day, seven days a week. It serves 12,000 meals monthly. The mission is always in need of canned goods — it takes 12 industrial size cans to make the side dish for one meal.

The kitchen prefers industrial-sized canned goods versus the smaller cans, which are less efficient.

Gateway also takes care packages with travel-size toiletries and hygiene products.
