14-year-old Denver boy charged with attempted first-degree murder, weapons charges for shooting near Cole Middle School

DENVER, CO – A 14-year-old boy was charged Wednesday in connection with the shooting of another boy outside a Denver school.

The unnamed juvenile is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, the Denver County District Attorney‘s office said in a statement.

On Aug. 28, 2018, around 2 p.m. outside of DSST Cole Middle School (formerly Mitchell Middle School) in the 3200 block of N. Marion Street, one young man was shot and taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The middle school confirmed that the shooting victim was a student.

Police did not immediately say if the juvenile in custody was another student at Cole.

Because the accused boy is a juvenile, no photo will be released, the district attorney’s office said.
