Denver starts to thaw out

Denver will begin its march towards warmer and even warmer temperatures this week once it sheds the memory of a frigid New Year’s weekend.

The low temperature on Monday morning hit 12 degrees, but wind chill factors made it feel more like zero, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Under sunny skies, the high is expected to top out at around 42 degrees. Tuesday night the low will be around 17 degrees.

Temperatures will rise to around 49 degrees on Wednesday, 50 on Thursday, 53 on Friday and 54 by Saturday, the weather service says. The weekend forecast calls for a chance of snow in the mountains and rain or snow on the plains.

The highs will be in the mid-to-upper 40s the first part of next week, weather forecasters say.
