FRANKFORT, IL – The village faced another string of vehicle break-ins recently to be added to the rash of car burglaries and thefts this spring and summer, according to authorities. Frankfort police and the Will County received thirteen reports of break-ins — with three cases involving stolen cars — over a two-day period.
The following is a look at the incidents that were reported to authorities Aug. 4-5. Unless noted, all the cases involved unlocked vehicles.
- Aug. 4
Four vehicle break-ins were reported in the 22300 block of Jeannette Court. Various items were stolen from the cars, according to Frankfort police.
Two vehicle break-ins were reported to Frankfort police in the 22400 block of Hughes Street, but nothing was taken in these incidents.
Nothing was stolen in a vehicle break-in the 22500 block of Ledgestone Way, police said.
Items were stolen during a vehicle break-in in the 22000 block of Chamomile Drive.
A vehicle was reported stolen from a driveway in the 22200 block of Clary Sage Drive. It was later recovered the same day by Chicago police. - Aug. 5
A vehicle was reported stolen from a driveway in the 11600 block of Rudy Court. It was later found by Harvey police on the same day.
Items were taken from a vehicle parked in a residential driveway in the 22900 block of Sun River Drive. Break-ins also happened to vehicles in a locked garage at the home, Frankfort police said.
Items were stolen from a vehicle in the 11700 block of Flagstone Turn, according to police.
Finally, a vehicle that was towing a bass boat was stolen Aug. 5 from the 7-Eleven parking lot in Frankfort Square while the owner was in the store, the Will County Sheriff’s Office said.
The vehicle’s owner was waiting to check out at the 7-Eleven, 7655 W. St. Francis Road, when a teenage boy approached him and asked the owner to buy him cigarettes. The owner refused, and the teen left the store, the sheriff’s office said.
When the owner walked out, he saw his vehicle and trailer driving away. The vehicle — along with the trailer and boat — was later found on St. Francis Road, west of Harlem Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office.
Frankfort police urge residents to keep their vehicles locked and never leave keys or key fobs in their cars. Valuable also should not be left in vehicles when possible.
