LANSDOWNE, MD – Authorities said one person was killed in a shooting at a cemetery in Baltimore County Wednesday afternoon before a funeral service was slated to start. Two people were shot, according to police.
Some roads were closed surrounding the crime scene, and nearby Lansdowne High School was temporarily placed on lockdown during the response.
At 12:43 p.m., officers were called to Mount Zion Cemetery in the 3900 block of Hollins Ferry Road in Lansdowne for a report of a shooting.
Police said that cars had arrived at the cemetery for a funeral, and before the service began, there was a “disturbance” that triggered the shooting.
Two people were injured with what appeared to be gunshot wounds, police said. One of them died, and that person will not be identified until next of kin has been notified, according to officials.
The other person who had been shot was taken to the hospital with injuries that police said were life-threatening.
Four emergency medical crews took a total of three people to area hospitals, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department. One person was in critical condition, another was in serious condition, while a third person had chest pains, police said.
Hollins Ferry Road was closed between Daisy Avenue and 5th Avenue, officials reported.
Police said the lockdown at Lansdowne High School was lifted by 2 p.m.
